Split The Night

© by Jay Harden

Split the night

With your splendid laughter

And wake me

From my dreamless weep,

The thousand

Ancient longings for a life

I dare to imagine

And mean to live.

You,

My soul in soft skin

And encouraging eyes.

When I listen,

The world is made right again.

My litter floats away.

And when I hear,

I act again.

The little joys of living

Accumulate once more,

Full of energy,

Breeding enthusiasm.

Split the night

With me,

And I with you.

We will break open

Twin discovery-dreams,

And walk out of our learning

Into the ineffable, glorious present,

Smiling and sharing our fear-free,

Dawn-filled songs.
