I'm Tickled

for my grandson, River, born in 1997

When I’m tickled, the cows leave home,

Boys don’t snore, my friends don’t roam.

When I’m tickled, I don’t have a bone

To pick or to throw at you.

When I giggle, I bend in the middle.

It makes the mid-day news:

My seat pants rip and my chocolate dip

Plops all over my shoes.

After I’m tickled, the cows come home,

Boys make noise, my friends telephone.

After I’m tickled, I don’t have a bone

To pick or to throw at you.

When I chuckle, my knees kinda buckle

And smiles leak outta my brain.

I then get the crazies laying in the daisies

Chewin’ on sugar cane.

When I’m tickled, the cows leave home,

Boys don’t snore, my friends don’t roam.

When I’m tickled, I don’t have a bone

To pick or to throw at you.

When I’m dreamy, I splash through the trees,

A mighty little river off to the seas,

Bubble through the water just like I oughta,

Singing the song that I please.

I mostly feel mirth ‘cause that’s what I’m worth,

But I don’t like it all alone.

I’ll find me a buddy who’ll play in the muddy

‘til all our goofies are gone.

After I’m tickled, I still feel good.

I still make noise, better than I could.

After I’m tickled, I’ll whittle on wood

And show my creation to you.
